Simple Faith
Simple Faith begins and ends with God
Everything created in the heavens and the earth was created by God. In Genesis 1:1, it says, ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.’ In the rest of this chapter in Genesis it shows us how God did this. He spoke it into existence, it literally says, ‘God said’…and it came to be just as He said. If all of creation responds to God’s voice this way, how much more should we as followers of Christ?
In Hebrews 11:1, a familiar passage that so many of us all know, says this, ‘Now faith is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.’ Our response to God’s Word is to be one of faith. Paul writes in Romans 10:17, that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Faith is not blind or wishful thinking. Our faith, confidence, and assurance comes from His Words. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’" Faith comes by believing every Word that He has ever written and every Word that He has ever spoken and every Word He will ever speak.
In Hebrews 11:6, it clearly says that without faith it is impossible to please God. It is the very thing that God finds pleasure in and moves upon. Our faith can only be confident if we believe what God has said. We can only believe Him to the extent that we know Him. Herein lies the key, intimacy with God through His Word and by His Spirit. This is how we know Him. Do we know the God of the scriptures? The Words of God have become so common and familiar to the majority of believers. We have diminished the very power of God’s Word by our lack of intimacy with Him. God is a relational God. In the garden He walked and talked with Adam and Eve. God has been speaking from the very beginning of creation and He is still speaking today.
God is looking for those who will take Him at His Word and believe Him. Where are those who will take Him at His Word and it be enough? He is looking for child-like faith. Will He find faith on the earth? Jesus said in Matthew 17:20, that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we could say to any mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for us. So many of our prayers would be answered if we just believed these simple truths…God said it and it is written.
Faith speaks what is already true, God’s Words, into existence where we do not yet see them. If He has already written it, then faith is declaring what is already true in heaven. As far as God is concerned, it is done. We never graduate from simple faith. It is foundational to everything being built in us by Christ and everything that will be built on Christ.
The Truth of God’s Word was never intended to become so common and limited to our own thinking. It is Holy, because He is Holy. His Words are the very fabric that undergird every created thing, visible or invisible, on the earth and in the heavens. Faith comes by believing every Word that He has ever written and every Word that He has ever spoken and every Word He will ever speak. So many prayers would be answered if we truly knew our God and believed Him. May we return to the simplicity of intimacy with the Father and know His heart and His thoughts toward us as sons and daughters….this is where faith begins and ends…with Him.
