Return to the Ancient Paths

The Lord is still speaking. As we learn to lean in and listen we can hear the voice of the Lord. He desires to speak to us.

The Lord is speaking to His church today just as He has always been faithful to speak to His people in times past. His Voice can be heard by those who attune their ears to hear and He speaks whether we choose to listen or not. The Lord never changes. As I have been sitting with the Lord I hear Him saying the same words to His church that He spoke to the prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 6:16, “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the Ancient Paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it. It is there you will find rest for your souls.”

In Jeremiah’s day, God’s people had closed their ears to hear the Words of the Lord. In Jeremiah 6:10, Jeremiah says this, “To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to Me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The Word of the Lord is offensive to them, they find no pleasure in it.” Unfortunately, offense had closed their ears. Offense against God and His Word. The sound of the Lord’s voice is reverberating throughout the atmosphere at this time and He is saying once again, “Stand at the crossroads and look and see where you are. My Word has become offensive to you. Return once again to Me and to who you are. You are My beloved bride. As you look once again into My perfect Word and ask Me to help you walk in it, there will be blessing and rest for you.”

God’s desire is for us to be free and mature sons and daughters. His Spirit and His Word are what He has given us. Apart from these things we walk in our own ways.  In Psalm 51:6, David writes of God’s desire for us to live in truth, “Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part you will make me to know wisdom.” God is calling us back to His Word and to walking in obedience to it. In His truth we have His wisdom and by His Spirit we have all the help and power we need to walk in it!

In Jeremiah’s day the people’s response to God was, “We will not walk in it.” They failed to stand, look, see, and ask. The result was captivity. Our God is a merciful God. The very foundation of His throne is justice and righteousness. He has rest and blessing for His people if we will turn to Him wholeheartedly and walk in obedience. May we turn back to His ancient ways that were written before time. To Him be the glory, honor, and praise forever and ever!
