The Promise of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, given to us by the Father through Jesus, is our Helper who teaches, guides, and empowers us to live in peace, overcome the world, and depend fully on God.

I find myself thinking of and pondering upon the gift of Holy Spirit that we have been given as believers by The Father through Jesus. What a marvelous mystery, that the Father would give us His very Spirit to live in us and help us! In John 14:16-17, Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.’
These were some of Jesus’ last words to His disciples. He knew they were mulling through questions in their minds over the words He was speaking to them as they ate their last passover meal with Him. He knew they would struggle with fear in the days ahead and he also knew they would need help, not just any help, but His help.
As disciples of Jesus, we need His help. Help to overcome this world and help to love Him by keeping His commands. Jesus said in this same chapter of John about Holy Spirit, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you: not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’ (John 14:26-27)
Holy Spirit teaches us and reminds us of all that Jesus has said. Holy Spirit gives us peace and helps us not to be afraid or troubled as we journey through this life and because Jesus overcame this world, we can overcome it too, by His Spirit within us!
We must all ask ourselves in light of Jesus words…Have we truly embraced the help of Holy Spirit? I exhort you today, to take time to search your heart where Holy Spirit is concerned. Do you have any areas of self-sufficiency where you have done what you have always done because you know how to do it? Most times we need the help of Holy Spirit to reveal these areas to us. When you hear Him, simply confess them and repent! It is that easy to be restored to the Lord and draw near to Him. Let the Lord lead you back to dependency on His Holy Spirit. Let us not ignore Him, a precious gift, but truly invite Him to teach us afresh and lead us and guide us into all Truth! He is the Great Helper!
