Walking in the Truth

The more we walk with the Holy Spirit, study the Word, and practice repentance, the more we experience fellowship with God and live in the Truth of Jesus that sets us free.

The more I sit with Holy Spirit and let Him teach me the Word of God, the more I see the truth of Jesus. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6) Jesus is the only way to God. He is the only way to the Father and He is the only Truth. John writes in the book of 1 John, a clear roadmap on how we can know if we ourselves are walking in the light of the Truth.

In 1 John 1:5-6, he writes, “This is the message we have heard from Him (Jesus) and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the Truth.” To sum this up in it’s simplest form, we can not have fellowship with God if we do not know Jesus and walk in Him. He is the light and the Truth. If we seek Truth apart from Him and believe that we can find Truth outside of Him, then we walk in darkness.

There is good news however, John goes on to say in 1 John 1:7-9, “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” It would be good to take note here, that John is writing to believers, not unbelievers. As believers we can be easily deceived if we do not remain in the Truth. The Word of God is our plumb line and it roots us in the Truth of Jesus. It is from this place we can have fellowship with Him by Holy Spirit.

John says, “If we confess our sins…’ Repentance is key to walking in the Light and remaining in the Truth. It is a beautiful gift that has been given to us by The Father. It restores us back to fellowship with Himself! This is what His heart longs for…fellowship with us! Repentance is not just a one time confession when we believe Jesus as Savior, but it is a lifestyle to be lived before the Lord, in response to Him. He is Holy. His Holiness requires repentance.

In Hebrews 12:14 it says, ‘Without holiness no one will see the Lord.’ When we repent He is faithful and just and He cleanses us from unrighteousness. Let us not say that we have not sinned, when we do this, scripture says that we make God a liar and His Word is not in us. (1 John 1:10) Let us confess our sin daily and have true fellowship with the Lord. Let us walk in the Light as He is in the Light. Let us live righteous lives by living in the Truth of Jesus, the Truth that sets us free.

I leave you with Jesus’ own words… “If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
